About
As the blog address states this site is dedicated to making memory quilts. Just exactly what are memory quilts you might ask? Well they are quilts that shows various memories through pictures. What kind of memories can go on a quilt? Any one of life’s moments that can be captured in a photo can be put on a quilt. It may be the birth of a child/grandchild, going off to first grade, graduation from high school/college, a wedding, an anniversary, or even a quilt done of loved ones for someone who has Alzheimer’s. Or how about a quilt for a soldier who is away from home. I’m sure they would love it! Having their loved one with them when they fall asleep. Besides it would keep them warm and it does get cold overseas. Just how cool is that?! All of these are memory quilts of one kind or another. I even did one for my grandson with all the pictures of his family or people he loved on it.
I have also made one for my mother for mother’s day. On that one I put pictures of my 3 sisters and myself, along with pictures of our children and grandchildren. I knew it was a success when she opened it,and started crying. This one I looked at as a “Family Memory Quilt.”
My mother-in-law has Alzheimer’s, so when I made her quilt I looked through her old photo albums. I used photos that regressed the children back in time from present day to infancy. The idea behind this memory quilt was to try to keep my mother-in-law’s memories grounded in the present. I also put a few pictures of her and my father-in-law as young newlyweds, expecting parents, and present day on it. I will explain it this way. She may not know that my husband is her oldest son Larry when she looks at him “now”, but she knows the picture of that “baby” is her son Larry. This quilt truly was a “Memory Quilt.”
I will take you through step by step of making a Memory Quilt. I will tell you what materials work the best, which photo transfers worked as well as the ones that didn’t. So gather your photos in hand, and meet me at makingwarmmemories.com
I would love to see a photo of you quilts
